If you have a desk job, you probably spend close to seven hours a day in an office chair – that is nearly two thousand hours in a year!
Since working in an office involves sitting for long hours, it is important that you consider a number of things before you invest in that office chair which could cause lower-back pain and poor workplace productivity.
Adjustability
The armrests, seat height and backrest must be adjustable. This would enable you make your office chair as comfortable as you would like it to be. Adjust your seat height and armrests such that your feet, thighs and forearms are parallel to the ground. The backrest should be recline-able to help your back to be inclined at the ideal sitting angle.
Proper support for your lower back
An office chair with lumbar support is invaluable because lower-back pain is an ailment most office workers suffer from. Get a chair with firm spine support so that your lower back will fit well.
Swivel
An office chair with wheels and a swiveling seat encourages mobility. You should get a swivel chair because it makes it easier to reach different areas of your desk without straining.
Seat material
The seat of the office chair itself should be padded with a material that would encourage sitting for a long period of time.
If you are not sure, you can test if the chair is comfortable before you purchase it.
